Young adults and college

Starting out on your own is a lot. Support is out there, on campus and off.

A young man sits at a desk, thinking.

On campus

  • College counseling centers are free or low cost for students.
  • Disability services offices can set up accommodations for mental health conditions.
  • The Jed Foundation has guides for students and families.

Off campus

  • Find a therapist near you.
  • Many therapists offer video visits, which can fit around classes and work.

Paying for it

  • You can stay on a parent's health plan until age 26.
  • Student health plans usually cover counseling.
  • See Paying for care.
